I Suck at Cloth Diapering

The idea of cloth diapering to me sounds great.  Saving money, helping the environment, less toxins on my baby toddler’s skin.  What’s not to like?!

Well for one, I have been using gDiapers flushable inserts and Pampers for over a year now and have never had an issue.  However, cloth diapers are a major investment.  With some diapers costing almost $30 each with the cost of inserts, the cost to get a diaper hose, diaper pail, etc… it is emptying your wallet before your eyes.  And then the detergent!  I didn’t know so much about laundry detergent until now.

The other thing?  The time.  Yes time to wash, dry, fold, stuff, strip, clean, etc…  With a disposable diaper, it’s soiled and tossed within seconds.

My other major issue?  Wipes.  My issue with wiping Jack with my disposable wipes with the cloth diapers essentially kills the process for me.  Extra unneeded steps that I just don’t want to do.  And I did look at the reusable wipes, but I am the wipes queen.  I don’t care how many wipes it takes, I will clean the mess up perfectly.

With the possibility that I will get a job soon, I have yet to find a daycare or a babysitter who is willing to use cloth diapers.  Even the gDiapers flushable inserts are a no no for some.

It is unfortunate that there are so many negative things to weigh down my decision to cloth diaper.  I wish it was easier because I know it is better, but at least I can say that I tried it first.

And to be honest, after reading Bebehblog’s post on how she gave up on cloth made me feel better about not continuing.

The bottom line for me?  I will continue to use my gDiapers flushable inserts and Pampers, but cloth diapering is just not something that I have time for right now.
